Painting in the studio (working from photos of Hermann on May 29, 2004)

SUMMARY OF PLACE:
This subject is a train engine at rest in Hermann, MO, immediately south of town.    Through the town, the tracks run parallel with the Missouri river and on its south bank.
INSPIRATION:
Trains captivate me.    Their size, complexity, and power beckon attention.    For this painting, it's all about the engine.    My goal was to capture the usefulness of a train engine, and convey a sense of well-deserved rest.    Other railcars do not matter in this motif and are not depicted.    For the remainder of the composition, I desired to capture the overall feel of Hermann.
