Painting en plein air at Tower Grove Park
SUMMARY OF PLACE:
It was a typical late summer morning at the lily pad pools in Tower Grove Park. The wind was still and the sky was overcast and bright. The aquatic vegetation was in its full summer glory. Though the sky was brighter than normal due to being overcast, the ground plane was slightly darker in tone (than on a clear morning) due to the lesser amount of light falling on it.
INSPIRATION:
My goal for this painting was to capture the attractiveness of red beside its compliment green. The composition emphasizes the variety of shapes found in the cultivated pond: the flat of the lily pads and the tall spikes of acquatic vegetation.
