"The Wet Spring of 2008"
Oil 11x14
Summary of Place:
It rains often in spring in Missouri, but the spring of 2008 was the wettest I could ever remember.
It rained seemingly every other day, and each rain event brought an inch or more.
Further, the timing seemed incredibly bad; I think every one of my planned outdoor events from March through May was adversely affected by rain.
However, with my deep farming roots, I find it difficult to frown on rain.
Drought is much worse than too much water.
This painting was to hang in a plein air show at the Shaw Nature Reserve later that evening.
In keeping with the theme of 2008, rain eventually chased me from my painting location.
Inspiration and Design:
My primary goal for this painting was to capture one of the wet days in the Spring of 2008 in Missouri.
