"Barges on the Mississippi, Spring"
Oil 12x16
Summary of Place:View subject
This collection of barges was parked immediately upstream (north) from my vantage point at Cliff Cave County Park.
The park is on the western side of the Mississippi River approximately 15 miles downriver of Saint Louis.
Barge activity is frequent on this section of river.
Inspiration and Design:
For this painting, my goal was to portray the significant aspects of the scene that I noticed.
Specifically, I noticed that the large trees on the bank were "framing" the barges.
I saw dark reflections of the barges in the water.
And lastly, the pink morning sky over the spring landscape created a grand complementary color scheme.
