"Thunder Over the Hills (Custer State Park)"
Oil 16x20
Summary of Place:
CUSTER STATE PARK SUMMARY
This piece is fact-based fiction.
While the composition is entirely imagined, the individual elements are real, and it tells an accurate story overall.
Grand vistas, trees struck by lightning, massive thunderheads, and large bison herds are all common to Custer State Park.
Inspiration and Design:
I implied two types of "thunder over the hills" in this composition.
First, the storm, and second, the large bison herd on the other side of the near hill.
My goal was to convey the overall strength of nature at Custer State Park, and particularly the strength of bison that have to endure such challenges continually.
