"Penny Haller At Her Baking"
Oil 18x14
Summary of Place:
Strong incandescent light was impacting the scene from the near left.
Natural light was entering through a window on the right.
The baker was wearing a white apron over a black top, creating extreme value contrast.
The subject in this painting is my wife, Penny.
Inspiration and Design:
Before beginning, I asked myself "What is my highest pleasure in this, and why?".
My answer was the anticipation of baked goods from an experienced and happy baker.
I then emphasized the line and form that best illustrated that geater meaning.
In particular, I carefully depicted the gesture of the baker's arms and hands.
Lastly, to express the anticipaton of the good things that follow the art of baking, I suggested warm cookies behind Penny in the composition.
